No Fear

Sedation Dentistry: You Don’t Have to Be Afraid Anymore

Are you afraid of the dentist? Have you put off seeing the dentist for years and now it is catching up with you? Are you looking for a way to accomplish all your dental care in as little as one appointment, with NO DISCOMFORT whatsoever. If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Sedation Dentistry might be right for you. In our St. Louis dentist office, we have used Oral Sedation Dentistry Protocols safely for many years. The process is quite simple. First, after reviewing your medical

history to make sure you’re a qualified candidate, Dr. West will prescribe medication that you will take the day of your appointment.

To ensure your safety, a family member or friend will bring you to our office and from there, our experienced dental team will ensure your complete comfort. Once the procedure begins, if you’re like most patients, you’ll feel NO DISCOMFORT whatsoever during and after treatment. In fact, you’ll have little or no memory of the visit at all. It’s that simple.

With Sedation Dentistry, years of neglect can be reversed in as little as a few hours.
Some of the treatments we perform include:

  • Whitening yellow or stained teeth.
  • Replacing crowns or dentures.
  • Fixing chipped or damaged teeth.
  • Restoring sore gums to good health.

Here are some common questions and answers
regarding Sedation Dentistry:

Q. Will I be aware of the treatment?
A. You will be completely unaware of the treatment and will wake up as if it were a dream.

Q. How much of the procedure will I remember?
A. You will have little memory of the visit, if any at all.

Q. How much pain will I feel?
A. Since our patients are sedated during the procedure, most will feel no pain whatsoever. Even after the procedure is complete, most patients feel good with very little discomfort.

Q. Will I be groggy after my treatment is over?
A. Following the procedure, you will feel as if you have awakened from a typical deep sleep. Most patients feel relaxed, with very little (if any) discomfort. As a precautionary measure, we do require that a friend or family member be present to drive you home.

Q. Is Sedation Dentistry safe for me?
A. As a general rule, yes. But we take extra precautionary measures prior to procedure to review your medical history and make sure that sedation dentistry is compatible with you and any medical limitations you may have.

Q. Will my insurance cover treatment?
A. In most cases, yes – but it depends on your individual coverage. We will review your coverage prior to procedure to make this determination. If your insurance coverage does not cover sedation dentistry, we have other financing options that can be made to make sure you get the dental care you need in the most affordable way possible.
